This document contains a set of engaging pedagogical practices and strategies that can assist faculty in engaging their students at university and advanced K-12 levels in science technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors in their courses to maximize learning and retention. The strategies and practices are diverse and research-based. The use of these practices and strategies varies in terms of success based on the type and contexts with each courses and also the needs and motivation of individual faculty and students. In the pages that follow, a “recipe” for each strategy is includes with some suggestions for use and other ideas. Engaging in particular pedagogical strategies increases student engagement and also consequently increases their learning and knowledge transfer. Figure 1 (below) illustrates this phenomenon
