NSF ECR-PEER Advanced Manufacturing

The overall goal of this engineering education proposal submitted by the University of Southern California is to design, develop, and deploy online engineering curricula to accelerate the training of the US workforce in the critical systems engineering skills area and its application to advanced manufacturing practice. The specific objectives of the project are to:

  1. Identify the required competencies in systems engineering-related areas for workforces in advanced manufacturing enterprises.
  2. Design a rollout strategy for the development and deployment of curriculum to serve:
    • engineering professionals
    • students at four-year colleges and universities
    • students at two-year colleges
  3. Develop integrated, online modular curricula that are vertically coherent at the
    • professional
    • four-year
    • two-year college levels.
  4. Develop courses and modules that integrate relevant simulation-based and telepresence-focused experiments to improve comprehension and retention of content during online content delivery.
  5. Deliver individual courses and modules as per the designed rollout strategy and perform a research-focused assessment based on the courses and modules’ abilities to meet application-focused learning objectives.
  6. Disseminate the course content using a scalable modular distribution and dissemination model.
